Bakers hires former Freshfields partner

Baker McKenzie has hired Geoff O’Dea, who recently left Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer after having served as a partner at the firm since 2012. O’Dea focuses on matters involving acquisition finance and schemes of arrangement for clients including special situation funds, insolvency practitioners, creditors and sponsors. He is slated to join Bakers’ finance practice as of September, and will work with Matthew Smith, who joins Bakers as a partner from Travers Smith, where he was senior counsel. Bakers has also hired Sue McLean from Morrison & Foerster, where she served as counsel. McLean joined Bakers as a partner, and currently works in the firm’s technology group.
