Boutique founded by ex-partners from Baker Botts and Addleshaw

November 6, 2017 Three partners from Baker Botts and Addleshaw Goddard have left their firms to launch a boutique called GPS Legal. The new firm will be offering contract lawyer services.

Brett Stewien, Phillip Georgiou, and Sonny Payne are the three departing partners. Stewien oversaw Addleshaw Goddard’s Hong Kong branch as a corporate partner along with head of the office Nigel Francis. From Baker Botts come arbitration partner Georgiou and special counsel Payne.

GPS aims to create a network of lawyers working in Asia who are willing to be utilized by the Hong Kong firm while maintaining positions at other firms. This growing group includes several part-time consultants and four junior fee-earners. One of these consultants, Helen Tang, also operates as a director at Simone Intellectual Property Services SIPS) Asia .

This tactic is in service of the firm’s GPS Flex contract lawyer service. The firm’s website states, "GPS Flex is at the core of our resourcing model.” It goes on, "It is the reason why GPS Legal can provide clients with experienced and capable teams for complex transactions and cases but with high degrees of price certainty."
