Mayer Brown to launch in Japan with Ashurst hire

Mayer Brown is slated to launch a new office in Tokyo, which will be the firm’s first base in Japan. The firm has hired Rupert Burrows, who previously served as managing partner of Ashurst’s Tokyo office. According to Mayer Brown chairman Paul Theiss, the new Tokyo office will help the firm to better serve clients in the region, including Japanese banks and corporations. Burrows has spent 16 years as a partner at Ashurst, and was replaced as Tokyo managing partner by Dominic Gregory earlier this year.
