White & Case nabs private equity star from Jones Day
White & Case has landed the hire of private equity rainmaker Mike Weir from Jones Day.
Weir, not one to stay put for long, was at Jones Day for just over four years. He got his start at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer before moving on to Gibson Dunn & Crutcher in 2005. After that he moved to Berwin Leighton Paisner, where he made partner in 2012.
Weir’s hire represents White & Case’s first since the recent exits of partner Katja Butler and private equity co-head Richard Youle to Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.
This recruitment falls in line with the 2020 strategy White & Case has been working within, which includes the reinforcement of the firm’s private equity and M&A teams.
Other recent hires by the firm that advance its 2020 strategy are finance partner Chris McGarry from Ropes & Gray, senior associate Daniel Turgel from Linklaters, corporate partner Dominic Ross from Ashurst, and litigation partner Hannah Field-Lowes from Weil Gotshal & Manges.
