Skadden lands rare Gleiss Lutz hire in Frankfurt
Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom has hired Gleiss Lutz’s co-head of private equity Jan Bauer to join its Frankfurt office.
Bauer was a partner at Gleiss Lutz for 13 years. He also spent one year at Cravath Swaine & Moore. His departure is significant for Gleiss Lutz, a firm that sees a surprisingly low number of partner losses.
Before Bauer’s departure, the latest heavy losses for the firm were in 2013, when corporate partner Ralf Thaeter and employment partner Burkard Göpfert left for Herbert Smith Freehills and Baker McKenzie respectively.
Skadden’s strategy of developing its German branches with increasing lateral hires echoes those of such other firms as Latham & Watkins, Kirkland & Ellis, and Sidley Austin.
