Linklaters gets access to SFTZ with Shanghai tie-up
Linklaters has tied up with Shanghai boutique Zhao Sheng, strengthening the best friends agreement between the firms that was made last April.
The association gives Linklaters long-awaited China law capability. Upon approval from the Chinese government, the magic circle will be able to benefit from the Shanghai Free Trade Zone scheme, first initiated in 2013. The firm’s managing partner Gideon Moore and senior partner Charlie Jacobs have been angling for such an alliance for some time.
Linklaters is not alone in its pursuit of being welcomed into the scheme, with other magic circle firms Clifford Chance, Allen & Overy, and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer laying groundwork for similar strategies.
