Shearman, Linklaters win lead roles on African mining IPO

Canada's Barrick Gold Corporation, the world's largest producer of gold, will spin off its African division into a separate public company. The new company, African Barrick Gold, expects to list on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) with a capitalisation expected to reach $3.7bn and will also seek a secondary listing on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange in Tanzania, its main area of operations. Shearman & Sterling and Linklaters have won lead roles on the spin-off, with Shearman advising regular client Barrick. London-based M&A partner Laurence Levy and finance partner Mei Lian led the firm's team. Linklaters London corporate partner partner Charlie Jacobs and US capital markets partner Pam Shores are advising the banks.
