Six law firms to assist in BP's $7 billion deal with Devon Energy

Six law firms will assist with BP’s $7 billion acquisition of assets in Azerbaijan, Brazil, and the Gulf of Mexico from oil and gas producer Devon Energy. Linklaters M&A partner Joshua Berick, corporate partner Stephen Griffin, and associates Colin Greenspon and Graham Phillips are advising BP on the acquisition. BP is also assisted by Canadian counsel Michael Hurst of Canadian firm Fraser Milner Casgrain, as well as Monique Mavignier, Sergio Rocha, and Mariana Santos from Brazilian firm Barbosa, Müssnich & Aragao, who advised BP on the Brazilian law aspects of the transaction. Devon is advised by Robin Fredrickson, Jeffrey Munoz and John Connally IV of US firm Vinson & Elkins. Patrick Maguire, of Canadian firm Bennett Jones advised on Canadian legal aspects of the deal, and Tozzine Freire is the company's Brazilian outside counsel.
