Allen & Overy (A&O) has been tapped to guide the French government agency Voies navigables de France on a €4.2bn deal to design, construct and maintain a 100km canal between France and both Belgium and the Rhine basin. The public-private partnership agreement is one of the biggest deals of its kind ever made in Europe.
The A&O team will be headed by Paris-based administration and public law partner Noel Chahid-Nourai, and will also include finance partner Rod Cork and corporate partners Frederic Moreau and Mathieu Odet, counsel Geoffrey Levesque and public law senior associates Romaric Lazerges and Jean-Luc Champy.
The real estate advice will be handled by partner Jean-Dominique Casalta and counsel Xavier Jancene, while senior associate David Affejee will advise on tax law.
French firm Gide Loyrette Nouel has landed a role advising on the construction.
