Latham & Watkins and A&O: biggest hirers and firers

An article in The Lawyer today reveals that the two global firms that have made the most redundancies over the past two years have also been the most active in recruitment. Between January 2008 and the present, Latham & Watkins has made 48 lateral hires, and Allen & Overy has made 46, more than any of the other Sweet Sixteen transatlantic firms. Meanwhile, the two firms are also setting records in the redundancy stakes. Last February Latham announced plans to make 190 associates and 250 paralegal and support staff redundant across its global offices, and around 400 A&O staff had lost their jobs by the end of April 2009.
