Rocking the boat between Sonnenschein and Denton

June 16, 2010 The merger between Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal and Denton Wilde Sapte has been approved by the partnerships of both firms, but it isn’t all clear sailing to the merger date on 30 September 2010.

One obstacle comes from a group of partners who joined Sonnenschein as their firm – Thacher Proffitt & Wood – dissolved. These partners received handsome compensation packages (well in excess of other similarly qualified recruits), and the terms of the deal oblige them to stay with their new firm only until 1 July. It has been reported that a number of the partners wish to leave Sonnenschein ahead of the merger, and that Denton Wilde Sapte was not informed of this fact during merger negotiations.
