Three firms line up for a piece of Halliwells

Three firms have formed a preliminary agreement to take over the majority of the troubled firm Halliwells. Barlow Lyde & Gilbert (BLG), HBJ Gateley Wareing and Hill Dickinson will seek the backing of their respective partnerships for a deal that would see BLG take over the defendant-focused insurance practice in Manchester, while HBJ would take over the remainder of the Manchester office and the Spinningfields office and Liverpool-based Hill Dickinson would absorb Halliwells’ Liverpool office. Halliwells’ Sheffield and London offices – diminished by successive exits and raids over recent years – have uncertain futures.
