Scottish firm McGrigors to lay off 40 lawyers

Scottish law firm McGrigors has announced its entry into a redundancy consultation, with plans to cut 40 lawyers from the roster, as well as a number of support staff from its operations in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. The firm will not be reducing its partnership, but several senior associates are expected to be shown the door. A spokesman for McGrigors said: "Unfortunately, over the past 12 months it has become increasingly clear that an immediate recovery is not going to emerge, and that we are instead facing a sustained period of market uncertainty - particularly while the effects of the public sector spending review become clear.”
