Baker & McKenzie slapped with $103 million malpractice verdict

Baker & McKenzie has been slapped with a $103 million malpractice verdict. The Mississippi jury found for the plaintiff, S. Lavon Evans Jr, who claimed that the firm represented him at the same time it advised his partner, Reed Cagle, in an oil-rig drilling business. Cagle was insolvent, and allegedly used Evans’ assets, with Held’s help, to obtain millions of dollars in loans. Baker & McKenzie is expected to appeal the decision.
