SJ Berwin elects new Managing partner in a close race

SJ Berwin has elected a new managing partner in a closely fought contest. Rob Day won the vote by just a handful of votes, and commentators are saying that the election reveals dissatisfaction among partner ranks over the lack of transparency over merger talks with Proskauer Rose. Day’s opponent Perry Yam is said to have been supported for the top job by a large proportion of the global partnership, including the whole of the London tax team, the majority of the London real estate group, the entire Paris office and the majority of the Madrid and Munich offices.
