UK lawyers behaving badly

A number of stories have surfaced this week about lawyers trading their professional integrity for cash. In West Yorkshire, Milners Solicitors partner Simon Morgan has been accused of siphoning off the enormous sum of £1.4m from the firm between 2002 and 2004. The prosecution alleges that Morgan used the money to fund an extravagant lifestyle, while attributing frequent trips to London and New York to the need for cancer treatments for his wife. According to the claim Morgan’s wife does not have cancer. Meanwhile, in Ireland, lawyer Seosamh O Diamhin has been struck off by the High Court after being found guilty of misappropriating €525,000 of client money. O Diamhin denied fraud, blaming his actions on illness and the additional accounting and financial liabilities he had assumed.
