Criticism of £2.5 million grant for A&O's offshore plan

March 1, 2011 Allen & Overy decided to place an offshore business support centre in Belfast after the firm was offered a £2.5 million grant from Northern Ireland's regional development agency.

But the grant has attracted some controversy, with critics saying that the money should be spent on those living in the province, rather than a large London law firm.

A spokesman for A&O said "we look forward to establishing our new office in Belfast during the autumn and to making a significant contribution to the local economy."
