Ropes & Grey builds private equity practice with Jones Day hire

Global law firm Ropes & Gray has developed its private equity practice with the hire of Peter Baldwin, a corporate partner from Jones Day. Baldwin is the second private equity lawyer to be hired by the firm in recent weeks, joining Kiran Sharma to build a practice that aims to capitalise on an increase in debt restructuring work. Maurice Allen, co-head of the London team, said: “We’ve done a lot of restructuring work over the past year -- including the KCA Deutag case that’s going on at the moment -- an area which we expect to continue growing. “The firm traditionally has tended to act for junior lenders in restructuring work and that is where a lot the activity is at the moment because they have more of an interest in making things happen.” The firm aims to three more private equity partners by the summer.
