US firms hiring to boost private equity practices in Europe

US firms are busy hiring to boost capacity in Europe as lucrative private equity work picks up in the region. Boston-based firm Ropes & Gray, which opened in London in 2009, recently boosted its ability to advise on European deals with the hire of Will Rosen, former head of private equity for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at DLA Piper. Chicago-based Kirkland & Ellis seems to be following the same strategy with the hire of Ashurst partners Gavin Gordon and David Arnold last summer, and New York’s Proskauer Rose is also bolstering its capacity in Europe with the hire of Russell Carmedy and Michael Nouril in London from Jones Day last month. Last July, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett boosted its ability to target European fund and buyout work with the hire of Jason Glover, former head of global private funds at Clifford Chance.
