Quinn Emanuel hires three partners to launch Washington DC office ... before signing a lease
Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has plans to open an office in Washington, DC, and has taken the step of hiring three partners from Alston & Bird in furtherance of that goal.
The firm has no launch date or location for the office, but is so keen on having the capacity to handle intellectual property matters before the International Trade Commission that it went ahead and hired partners Paul Brinkman, Alex Lasher, and Alan Whitehurst regardless. The Washington base will be headed by Los Angeles partner Jon Corey, who will relocate to the capital.
According to Charles Verhoeven, head of Quinn Emanuel's intellectual property group, the firm’s share of ITC cases has peaked in the past few years, to the point where "it started becoming a no-brainer to pursue an office [in DC]."
