China's legal profession grows to 200,000 lawyers

Interesting short article here about the legal profession in China. According to this report in China Daily, the number of licensed lawyers in China has reached 200,000, a massive increase from just a few hundred in 1979 when the legal profession was re-established. Figures released at the 9th China Lawyer Forum reveal that there are over 17,000 registered law firms in China, and that between 2006-2010 there were 10 million litigation matters, 5 million non-litigation matters and 1 million legal aid cases handled by lawyers in China.
