Herbert Smith and Freehills consider July merger

Herbert Smith is still in merger negotiations with Australian firm Freehills, with reports emerging that a tie-up between the firms could happen as early as 1 July this year. The firms are discussing a range of options for the alliance, including a full merger, a Swiss Verein-style deal or a joint venture. If the merger goes ahead the combined firm would have revenues of around £770m, and Herbert Smith would gain new bases in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane, as well as two associated offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
