DLA Piper launches in Mexico

DLA Piper has launched a new office in Mexico City. The new base will be staffed with a team of 16 lawyers from the Texas law firm Thompson & Knight, and will focus on serving multinational clients doing business in Mexico. U.S. co-chairman Terry O’Malley explained that the launch is part of a strategy of expansion in Latin America, following on from a launch in Brazil 18 months ago. Carlos Ramirez, Mexico analyst for Eurasia Group, explained the appeal of Mexico as a target for investment by multinational companies, saying: “The economy is doing well, there is plenty of job creation, and consumers are spending. And in 2012, most economic forecasters are anticipating that the economy is going to grow 3.5 to 4%, with 500,000 new jobs in that time.”
