Clifford Chance to tell under-performers to take a hike

Clifford Chance is attempting to change its own rules regarding the removal of underperforming partners. Under the current system, an under-performing partner will be given notice and the opportunity to lift their game over a period of between 9 and twelve months. The proposed reform to the firm’s constitution would do away with the improvement period, allowing the firm to get rid of partners with a mere three month termination notice. The firm made a number of layoffs to its associate ranks a few weeks back, and now it seems that they’d like to trim the partnership as well.
