Modest gains for women in US law firms

New data from the National Law Review shows an increase in the number of women joining the partnerships of large US law firms. Of the 200 firms surveyed in 2011, women made up 15 percent of equity partners, a proportion that has remained fairly static since 2006. The figures are, however, more promising among the top firms in the country. Among the top 18 firms, with profits of $2 million or more per partner, 11 firms show women accounting for more than 15 per cent of the equity partnership, and some firms even exceed 20 percent.
