Field Fisher Waterhouse launches in Silicon Valley

UK firm Field Fisher Waterhouse is set to expand its US business with the launch of a new office in Silicon Valley. The Palo Alto office opened last week under the leadership of London privacy and information partner Phil Lee. The new base won’t offer local law advice, but will target US companies considering investments in Europe, with a particular focus on ‘big pharma' clients and biotechnology and medical devices companies. The launch is part of the firm's US strategy committee's focus on highly regulated businesses, as well as IP- and technology-driven companies. London-based intellectual property partner Nick Rose, who is driving the expansion, said: "The US is a big market for us - around 25% of our revenue comes from the States and we have a growing number of multinational clients based in Silicon Valley. Taking our leading reputation in the TMT sector to the focal point of the world's technology industry gives us the opportunity to better service our existing client base as well as attract work from US clients who require legal advice from across our European offices."
