Toga Joins Bingham’s Tokyo Office as Securities Partner

Takayasu Koga has joined Bingham’s Tokyo office as a securities partner. Koga was previously the assistant director in charge of inspections at Japan’s Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission (SESC), where he oversaw the examinations of securities firms, investment advisers, investment management firms and futures trading firms, and he was involved in reviewing and implementing proposed regulations. Before joining the SESC in 2005, Koga was a partner at Anderson Mori & Tomotsune, where he worked on securities and regulatory matters. Bingham chairman Jay Zimmerman said Koga’s arrival helps position the firm’s global presence. “His government and previous law firm experience fits with our international practices and allows us to serve our clients conducting business in Japan,” Zimmerman said. In his new role at Bingham, Koga will be focusing on compliance and regulatory issues affecting investment banks, investment advisers, investment managers and hedge funds.
