Scotland delays ABSs until end of 2013

April 18, 2013 The Scottish Law Society has indicated that legislation providing for Alternative Business Structures for Scottish law firms is likely to be delayed until the end of 2013.

The planned reforms, which will allow up to 49% of a law firm to be owned by a non-lawyer, where scheduled to be brought into effect this month, but the government is still considering the detail of the draft scheme, and intends to conduct further consultations.

The Law Society now says that implementation towards the end of 2013 is "more realistic".
