Travers Smith awards bonuses for life disruption

July 4, 2013 Travers Smith has introduced a new policy that aims to compensate lawyers when their work causes “excessive disruption” to their personal lives.

The new scheme, to be introduced on 1 July, will award bonuses to lawyers who suffer such a disruption - including frequent late nights, weekend work and excessive travel abroad - in addition to the existing scheme awarding bonuses to lawyers that exceed annual billings targets.

Managing partner Andrew Lilley explained the scheme was being introduced because lawyers “might be more miserable than we would want them to be.”
