Slaughter and May makes first lateral hire ever

February 4, 2014 Slaughter and May has hired directly into the partnership for the first time in the firm's 125 year history. Capital markets partner John Moore joins the firm’s Hong Kong office from Morrison Foerster where he served as co-head of the China capital markets practice.

Moore joins two other newly made up partners in Slaughters' Hong Kong office, both of whom were associates at the firm, and commentators say that the move to bolster the firm’s China offerings are part of a broader strategic vision.

Executive Partner Richard Clark commented to RollOnFriday that "The market in Hong Kong is such that we felt we should have US capacity in order to be able fully to service our clients and, of course, we could not have acquired this without a lateral hire". Clark further clarified that "this is a market-specific case and in no way implies that we have any intentions of expanding US capacity outside Asia".
