DLA Piper expands through merger in Mexico City
DLA Piper will expand its branch in Mexico City through a merger with firm Gallastegui y Lozano (GyL). The DLA Mexico City office was opened in February 2012 after hiring the entire legal team from Thompson & Knight. The name of the newly merged firm will be DLA Piper Gallastegui y Lozano.
In the wake of the merger, partners Carlos Valencia and Tatiana Escribano, who joined DLA from Thompson, as well as Miguel de Erice will depart for partner positions at Baker & McKenzie. Valencia had been co-head of the Mexico City office. Manuel Rajunov remains as co-head until the merger takes effect in January 2015.
Eduardo Gallestegui will become managing partner when the merger takes effect, leading a newly formed firm with nine partners and 23 lawyers.
Seven partners, including Gallestegui, join from GyL:
Gallastegui (business, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and M&A)
Gerardo Lozano (banking, finance, arbitration and maritime law)
Maria Eugenia Rios (M&A, corporate, real estate and finance)
Jorge Benejam (M&A, healthcare, corporate and banking)
Gabriela Alaña (real estate and finance)
Marcelo Paramo (energy, oil and gas)
Cecilia Azar (arbitration and alternative dispute resolution).
