Google search rank changes affects firms' site rankings
April 22, 2015
Google updated its search algorithms, now favoring website that are mobile-friendly. The change will affect the rankings of almost half of the UK's top 100 firms, that have not adequately developed their websites to be mobile-friendly. That includes three elite firms - Clifford Chance, Allen & Overy, and Slaughter and May.
The oversight is curious, given that Google drives a considerable amount of web traffic to websites worldwide. Of the top 15 firms in the UK, nine do not have mobile friendly sites. Even Taylor Wessing and Olswang, two firms focused on technology and media, have not developed mobile-friendly sites.
The potential for firms with mobile friendly sites to capitalize on other firms' oversight could be significant, especially in the short term, as the rankings will be affected as of yesterday, 21 April.
