King & Spalding opening Tokyo office
King & Spalding is hiring four partners from Ashurst and launching an office in Tokyo with the newly acquired talent. Leading the group of hires is Ashurst’s former Tokyo head, John McClenahan.
McClenahan is a project finance partner who will be the managing partner at King & Spalding’s new office. He has worked in Tokyo for more than 20 years. Joining McClenahan’s team are partners Mark Davies (project finance), Chris Bailey (dispute resolution) and, based from Perth, Rupert Lewi (energy).
The new office will lead the firm’s energy practice in the Asia-Pacific region, especially handling project development and finance, global disputes and cross-border investment.
Ashurst announced last week that it would promote corporate and projects partner Rupert Burrows to be the new managing partner of its Tokyo office.
