Baker Botts grabs energy trio from Jones Day
Baker Botts is making a significant move to boost its presence in China, hiring three partners from Jones Day's Hong Kong office. Michael Arruda, Joanne Du and Phillip Georgiou, were all formerly partners at Jones Day.
Arruda brings 30 years of experience in the oil & gas industry with him to the firm. He moved to Jones Day in 2008 after working for Baker & McKenzie, Bingham McCutchen and Fulbright & Jaworski. His practice centers on acquisition, operation and divestiture of oil and gas interests in Asia.
Du became partner at Jones Day in 2014. Georgiou also became partner at Jones Day, in 2010. Du practices mainly within transactional matters in the energy sector. Georgiou's specialty area is dispute resolution regarding construction and energy projects.
The trio will remain based in Hong Kong, but spend time in Baker Botts' Beijing office. Until recently, only partner Jeff Layman was working in the office there.
