Ropes & Gray to spin off patent prosecution practice

Ropes & Gray has announced that the firm will spin off its patent prosecution team and create a new firm with the team’s approximately 100 lawyers and staff members. The new firm will be headed up by Joe Guiliano, who currently serves as co-head of intellectual property and rights management. According to privacy and data securities partner Rohan Massey, the move will not affect lawyers in the London office, which does not currently include a patent prosecution team. In addition to spinning off the current team, the new firm is expected to hire additional lawyers and staff members.
