Gibson Dunn hires HSF energy co-head Anna Howell

Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has hired Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) energy co-head Anna Howell, who will be Gibson Dunn’s first London-based oil and gas hire. Howell’s departure from HSF follows that of fellow energy co-head John Balsdon, who exited earlier this year for Latham & Watkins. Perth-based energy co-head Robert Merrick is expected to lead the group once Howell exits the firm. Howell has been with HSF since 1996, and has worked in global offices including Hong Kong, Singapore and London.
