Diversity remains a challenge for legal profession
According to this year’s Annual Statistics Report from the Law Society, the legal profession has seen little change in partnership diversity, despite diversifying overall. Among practice certificate (PC) holders, the proportion of women has increased by 3% over last year, from 65,147 to 67,393. Despite the increase, the number of female partners stood at 8,105, an increase of just seven partners over 2016. In private practice, 41.7% of men were represented at the partner level, while 18.8% of women were represented. The report also showed growth of 32% for Alternative Business Structures (ABS), with 475 ABS in operation as of July 2016.
