Top 30 China firms look to expand via lateral hires

Among China’s top 30 firms, many are looking to lateral hires to further expand in the country. As part of The Lawyer’s China Top 30 report, 21 firms provided data on internal promotions and lateral partner hires in 2016. Internal promotions accounted for more growth than lateral hires at 16 firms, while lateral hires outnumbered internal promotions at three. The remaining two firms reported equal numbers of internal promotions and lateral hires. In addition to hiring partners from Chinese firms, several respondents have hired partners from international firms.
