shurst fortifies Canberra office with two hires
Ashurst has hired two partners for its Canberra office, one from Norton Rose Fulbright and the other from HWL Ebsworth.
From Norton Rose comes dispute resolution partner Melanie McKean, and from HWL Ebsworth comes TMT partner Angela Summersby.
Since merging with Henry Davis York in December 2017, Norton Rose has seen four partners exit, starting with Sydney financial institutions head Chris Redden, who also joined Ashurst. Corporate partners Anthony Latimer and Iain Laughland left the firm shortly after, to Bird & Bird and Mills Oakley respectively.
These are the first Australian arm hires Ashurst has made this year, after having placed more focus on Asia so far, where partners from Allen & Overy and Fangda Partners joined the Shanghai practice.
