Ropes & Gray strengthens finance practice with HK hire
Ropes & Gray has recruited finance lawyer Jackie Kahng from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett for its Hong Kong office.
Kahng, dually qualified in New York and Hong Kong, works on borrower-focused financing work. Ropes & Gray’s co-head of global finance Byung Choi stated that the firm expects Kahng to “play a key role” in the expansion of its finance practice.
The firm started offering Hong Kong law advice six years ago in 2012, with the hires of Julian Chung from Norton Rose Fulbright and Gary Li from Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison.
The office is in a rebuilding stage after suffering the loss of four partners in April 2017: managing partner Paul Boltz, who left for Gibson Dunn & Crutcher; banking partner Michael Nicklin; and private equity partners Brian Schwarzwalder and Scott Jalowayski.
