Najib Razak preparing for forfeiture investigation with US firms
Former prime minister of Malaysia Najib Razak is reported to be setting up relationships with a high-profile team of US lawyers as the scandal surrounding the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) heat up.comments powered by Disqus
Forfeiture complaints were filed against 1MDB in 2016 and 2017, alleging that over $4.5 billion was laundered from the company through a number of shell companies and bank accounts. Najib allegedly benefitted from the misappropriation of funds from 1MDB, to the tune of $681m.
According to a pair of Malaysia newspapers, Najib is being advised by Boies Schiller & Flexner chairman David Boies, as well as Boies Schiller partner Matthew Schwartz, a former prosecutor. Najib is also reportedly listed as a client by Ashcroft Law Firm.
