Clifford Chance retention rate slides after high spring
Clifford Chance has become the first magic circle law firm to release its autumn 2018 retention results.
Of the 47 trainees that were in its autumn cohort, 44 applied for positions to continue on at the firm. Having offered newly qualified positions to 36 of these final seat trainees, the firm’s retention rate sits at 76.5%.
Since spring 2010, the firm’s average retention rate has been 81%, with 793 of the 974 total trainees qualifying. The autumn rate is in especial contrast to its recent spring results, in which the firm offered positions to 44 of 48 trainees, totaling 92%.
The only other firm to publish its retention results thus far is Mayer Brown, which kept eight of 10 qualifiers.
