ASEAN Charter aims to establish legal framework for ASEAN

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) stressed Tuesday that the ASEAN Charter adopted here aims to establish a legal and institutional framework for ASEAN. As the regional group becomes 40 years old this year, it established the mini-constitution after about three year's preparation. The Charter says in its preamble that leaders from the ASEAN member states care the "the existence of mutual interests and interdependence among the peoples and member states of ASEAN which are bound by geography, common objectives and shared destiny."
