US law firms saw merger mania in 2008

There were 70 new law firm mergers and acquisitions in 2008, according to a new report from the legal management consulting firm Altman Weil Inc. While the pace of the deals slowed during the third and fourth quarters, the total number of mergers was up by 17 percent from the 60 deals that were reported in 2007.
