Apartheid lawsuits against US companies allowed to proceed in part

A judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York "narrowed" extensive claims against a number of US companies arising out of alleged assistance in human rights violations by the South African apartheid regime. The claims, raised under the US Alien Tort Claims Act, allowing foreigners to sue in US courts under certain circumstances, were not, however, dismissed in their entirety.
