US interception programme exceeded legal boundaries

Officials of the United States Department of Justice have indicated that a programme of eavesdropping and interception operated by the country's National Security Agency in the past had exceeded the legal boundaries in place on such activities. The Justice Department indicated that measures were being taken to ensure the programme's compliance with privacy requirements.
