Weil Gotshal cuts staff despite strong results

June 2, 2009 Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP, which has about 43 lawyers in Boston and 1,215 lawyers firm-wide, has laid off 79 non-legal staff across all of its U.S. offices.

The staff cuts come despite a rise in profits per partner in 2008 of about 7 percent to $2.27 million.

Weil Gotshal has done better than many competitors recently. The firm is working on high-profile bankruptcy cases including that of Lehman Brothers and GM.
