Weil Gotshal defers start date for summer hires to 2012

Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP offers summer law students the option to defer their full-time start dates from January 2011 until January 2012, reports Bloomberg. Summer hires who get a job offer and defer the start date will receive health-care benefits, Weil Gotshals's management committee said in a memo. Summer hires who spend the year working at a firm-approved public service job, clerkship or client assignment will also receive a $75,000 stipend. Weil Gotshal, the ninth-highest grossing U.S. law firm, fired 79 staff members in June to reduce costs.
