Who's next? Wilmer freezes salaries and drops lockstep

Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr is the latest US law firms to abandon lockstep compensation for associates. Wilmer will freeze all associate salaries for 2010 at 2009 levels, except for second-year associates. The firm is keeping first-year salaries at $160,000 and will pay second-years $165,000. Yesterday, Sonnenschein announced plans to abandon lockstep pay, following rivals like DLA Piper.
