Eversheds investigates partner over 'new mother' email
Leading City law firm Eversheds, which prides itself on equality, was forced to carry out an inquiry after a partner questioned the commitment of a female interviewee who had recently had a child. Litigation partner Stuart Dutson emailed colleagues voicing concerns as to how the candidate would 'balance work and child'. Eversheds carried out an internal investigation over the email. Dutson was warned about his future conduct but remains with the firm. The head of the department Stewart Shackleton who disagreed with Dutson resigned from Eversheds last week in a move not believed to be related to this incident.
